Compost Regulations for Vendors

VegFest strives to make the NEVF as zero waste as possible. Please carefully read over our 2027 vendor regulations below, and if you have questions, contact manda@vegfest.org

All NEVF vendors are required to use third-party certified compostable materials for sampling and serving food. This includes plates, to-go containers, utensils, napkins, cups, straws, sampling cups, and all other disposables.

Be sure that your materials have third-party certification, such as BPI. Currently there are no wider regulations, so any company can claim to be compostable even if they are not.

Additional Zero Waste Suggestions

The following actions are suggested:

  • Use compostable or reusable bags rather than plastic bags.
  • If you are providing condiments with your food, we recommend dispensing them in bulk with pump bottles instead of single-serving packets.
  • Avoid the use of excess foil, plastic wrap, and unnecessary packaging.
  • Please limit handouts. Try using a sign which includes a scannable QR code to direct customers to your information. If you do have handouts, consider printing them on post-consumer or recycled content paper.
